American Board of Otolaryngology Computer-Based Testing
Coordinated through the American Board of Surgery (ABS)
The American Board of Otolaryngology (ABOto) is an independent, non-profit organization founded in 1924 for the purpose of certifying otolaryngologists who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge. The ABOto offers computer-based examinations through Pearson VUE for its Written Qualifying (WQE) and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Exams.
Before scheduling an examination appointment, you must have already:
- Applied for the WQE or MOC through the ABOto website and had the application approved;
- Registered for the examination, including payment of an examination fee to the ABOto;
- Received an Examination Admission Authorization email from the ABOto.
Examinees may schedule their test appointment online or by telephone. To schedule online, you must first create a Pearson VUE web account. Please note that account creation may require up to 24 hours. You will be notified by e-mail when your account is activated.
To schedule your test and to create an online account, you will need the Candidate ID from your Examination Admission Authorization letter. Test appointments may be made up to one business day in advance, but be aware that many test centers fill prior to the examination period.
After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.
You will need to bring your ABOto Examination Admission Authorization email and two forms of ID (one must have a photo and both must have signatures) to the test center with you. The name on the IDs must match the name on the letter.
