Coordinated through Professional Testing (PTI).
According to CAOHC's definition, a Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC) is usually the focal point of a hearing conservation program (HCP). Even though the audiometric testing program must be supervised by an expert in the hearing field (an audiologist or physician or otolaryngologist), the OHC is the person who is most often closely involved with noise-exposed workers and their activities. In most cases the responsibilities of an OHC include but are not limited to audiometric testing and follow-up, record keeping, education and training of employees regarding hearing protection, and fitting hearing protection devises as well as ensuring compliance.
Certification of OHCs
- better defines the criteria for professional recognition;
- stimulates and encourages the professional development of all individuals in the field;
- measures the candidate's knowledge and ability with respect to the current state of the art;
- provides personal satisfaction with recognition of competency among a professional group; and
- benefits the hearing health of occupationally noise-exposed workers.
Scheduling for a computer-based exam
Before scheduling an OHC exam, you must meet the prerequisites, apply, pay the designated fee, and receive an authorization-to-test email from CAOHC. For more information, visit the CAOHC Certification website.
First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. Please note that account activation may require up to 24 hours. When creating your account and scheduling your exam, you will need your CAOHC candidate ID number from the authorization-to-test email sent to you upon completion of the application process.
After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.
