The DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission was established to effectively regulate all Boxing, Wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts exhibitions, events, performances and contests in the District of Columbia. The Commission is committed to establishing and maintaining the highest of ethical practices and the conduct of boxing and other combative sports in the District of Columbia. The Commission is dedicated to protecting the health, safety and welfare of its licensees; the promotion of public confidence in the sports industry; trust in the regulatory process; and, achieving the ultimate goal of making the District of Columbia, not only our Nation’s capital, but also the capital of the sports industry.

The DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission (Commission) regulates boxing, wrestling, martial arts and mixed martial arts within the District of Columbia, and protects participants and consumers by upholding the District of Columbia Boxing and Wrestling license law (pdf). The Boxing and Wrestling license law is defined by the District of Columbia Boxing and Wrestling Commission Act of 1975, as amended by the District of Columbia Boxing and Wrestling Commission Act—Amendment of 1976 and the District of Columbia Boxing and Wrestling Commission Act Amendment Act of 1988.

The Board consists of three members appointed by the Mayor and approved by the D.C. Council. All members must be residents of the District of Columbia for the duration of their term.

April 19, 2014 Professional Boxing Event – Golden Boy Promotions presents another historic event when IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion Bernard Hopkins faces WBA World Champion Beibut Shumenov at the DC Armory. In the co-main event, popular undefeated WBO Middleweight World Champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin defends his title for the third time when he meets WBO European titleholder and former interim WBO Junior Middleweight Champion Lukas Konecny.
